My boyfriend (who's Finnish) had been asking me for a while to make meatballs for him, and since I don't know much about meatballs (except maybe that they sell them at Ikea and I thought they were good enough) I had been reluctant to try making them myself. I found Twinke's recipe on YumSugar and I thought they looked delicious, and since her husband (who's Finnish too) thought they were even better than his mom's, this was the recipe I was going to try.
The meatballs were really easy to make and they turned out really moist and flavorful. I was happily surprised and impressed. Thanks to Twinkle, I passed the "Meatball Test" and I'm 100% ready to marry my Finn now. Better, he also said that they were better than his mom's. It's definitely one of the YumSugar recipes you should try.

Mmmmmm looks easy too!
2How did you make the cream sauce? These look delicious!
3Well... I didn't really make it. I cheated a bit! It's the cream sauce mix they sell at Ikea. You can also eat meatballs with brown sauce, which is really easy to make. I should post the recipe some day.
4Yay! I've never had a Twinkle recipe come out bad.
for the OG Kitchen Goddess!!
5It seriously made me wanna try all her other recipes.
6Do it! Your bf will probably also love her Christmas stars, I think they're Finnish as well.
7Mmmmmmmmmmm those looks sooooo good
The only thing I would have to change is the amount
of sauce.. I like Swedish meatballs completely covered in the deliciousness of that sauce
8YAY! I'm so glad it passed another Finn's test. Do try the Christmas Stars. They're easy and delicious.
9I wanted to try them. The only problem: can't find the right jam here in Quebec. I would have tried it with another kind of jam, but my BF kept on insisting that it wouldn't be the same. I tried so many Finnish recipes since I met my boyfriend. The best ones I tried were probably the potato and ham casserole and the salmon soup. Next time I make them I'll take pictures to show you, along with the recipes.
Oh, btw Twinkle: We're moving to Scandinavia soon, it'll be much easier for me to try your Scandinavian recipes.
And Karma: Don't worry, we ate the meatballs with a lot of sauce. I just didn't want to put much for the picture, the meatballs would have disappeared!
10I want to try these so bad but I have no clue if our local grocery has leeks and I am sure they don't have that jam.
11OH and Finn your taters looks scrumptious. Did you make them by hand? If so how did you make them, what did you put in them?
12Yes I did. I just boiled my potatoes, mashed them really well, added a lot of butter, some milk, some finely chopped parsley, thyme and dill, and a bit of garlic that I roasted in the oven. That's it. Sometimes I add some caramelized onions and some strong cheddar instead of herbs and garlic. Depends on my mood.
13wow thanks Finn. I have never added thyme and dill. I'll have to give that a try.
14Aud, if you can't find leeks, just use regular ol' onions. You can substitute cranberries sauce for lingonberry jam. It's similar but ligonberries have a bit more flavor.
15thanks twink! and just to be sure when you say regular onions you mean white/yellow onion bulbs and not the green onions?
16Yes, white or yellow onions should do fine.
17This place has ligonberry jam. Get some.
18Will do!

20I have made these meatballs many times!! They are really yummy
21I am going to "attempt" to make them tonight. I want to try the cream sauce too. I googled and it say Chinese Soya sauce. My hubby (is at the store) and said there isn't any there. I wonder if they meant soy sauce.
22Audreystar, I don't think you're talking about the right one. When I was in Finland, I bought a magnet from Iittala with the recipe for the Finnish Brown Sauce that can also be served with meatballs. Maybe you could try it and tell us how it turned out.
1 table spoon butter
2 table spoon wheat flour
400 ml water
1/2 stock cube
salt and pepper
Just melt the butter, add the flour. Cook it a little, but don't make it burn. Add the liquid and the stock cube. Add salt and pepper to taste. I guess you could also add a little bit of cream in there as well.
23Good luck tonight! You'll see, they're really easy to make.
I love lingonberry jam but I can never find it where I live.
24You can get the lingonberry jam at Ikea (there's always a Swedish Market near the exit). Otherwise, you can buy it online. Just use the link Twinkle posted.
25I see lingonberry jam here in the same aisle as the pancake mixes and syrups, now I know what you use it for!
26Ligonberry jam is also good with cabbage rolls.
27Or with sautéed reindeer. A big spoon of lingonberry jam, a big spoon of crème fraîche and some fresh dill... So good!
28No offence meant while I laugh hysterically at Sauteed reindeer!
Don't let any kids read that Moms!

I like my Rudolph medium rare!
Can't stop laughing myself!

pizza is pretty tasty too.
31Personally, I've never gotten into eating deer or venizen. I know peple who do.

These look great! Glad you liked them!

@ sauteed reindeer!!!
That
just sounds hysterical! I thought they were mythical creatures for the longest time. I had no idea there were real (non-flying) reindeers!
