My travels have inspired me many recipes and this spread is one of them. It resembles the shrimp salads you can find in Norway, although a bit thicker, and it's delicious with Swedish crackers as an appetizer or on a bagel for lunch. It's also just as delicious with smoked salmon or crab meat instead of shrimps.
Here's the recipe:
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 3/4 cup sour cream (crème fraîche is even better)
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 table spoons fresh dill, chopped
- 1 table spoon flat parsley, chopped
- 1 table spoon chives, chopped
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1 cup small Nordic shrimps, chopped
- a lot of pepper, a pinch of salt
Mix the cream cheese and the sour cream really well. Mix in the herbs, the garlic and the lemon zest. Add the shrimps. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve with lemon wedges and Swedish toasts and rye crackers.
Update: Tonight I had dinner at my friend's and we once again made this spread (it's becoming a staple at our get-togethers). Since we had a bunch of avocados that needed to be used, we decided to only use 1/2 cup of sour cream and add a mashed avocado to the mixture. The result was great and very yummy.

Looks good cept I don't do the whole seafood thing.
1If you don't do seafood, you can try this: use goat cheese instead of cream cheese, add even more herbs (basil for example) and some lightly toasted pine nuts. It's really good too.

No thanks.
4This sounds good. I've never heard of Nordic shrimp, are they like small salad shrimp?
5I'm not a shrimp expert, and since English is not my first language, I'm not 100% sure. But from what I saw online, they look the same (if you meant, cold water salad shrimp). Here in Quebec we call those shrimps "crevettes de Matane".
6Sounds yummy to me, I love seafood and I'm always on the lookout for things to bring to parties. Adding to favorites!
7Yummy. My daughter loves shrimp. Nordic shrimp are pretty tiny, much smaller than the ones you get in the US.
8Sounds delish.
9Mmmm looks good!
10This looks like a "must try", and looks absolutely delicious!
11Thanks! It is really good. In fact, I still have some leftovers and I think I'll make myself an open sandwich for lunch. Just spread the shrimp mixture on a piece of bread (rye is good) and add a few cucumber slices and some hard-boiled egg slices and you have a yummy Scandinavian inspired sandwich.
12Oh, love the goat cheese idea! I don't eat cream cheese, so that's perfect!
13I LOVE the way dill flavors food. I think I will probably give this dip a try.
14Sounds divine
