I've decided we need to add more fish to our diet. But, I hate fish. And despite growing up on an island, I know jack all about fish. I know I like aku. But, frankly I'm not sure what aku is in English.
I *think* it might be some sort of tuna...?
I'm looking for suggestions from you all on what kinds of fish I should start with. I don't like a fishy taste. And, I don't like mushy meat, I need something firm. (That's what she said.)
Help me out...?

I don't know, I hate fish. :puke: I go through stages where I like and then hate tuna, but that's about all I can stomach, and even then, it's only sometimes.
1I'd also like to get my family eating fish more often but I'm sort of a chicken when it comes to fish. The only type I've ever cooked is salmon, which is good if you like your fish firm.
2Ahi tuna is good and firm, and it finishes off pretty clean, IMO. I'm hesitant to give you recs, though, because I'm such a big fish lover myself!
3I've always wanted to try monkfish which is also supposed to be pretty firm.
4i love halibut, haddock, seabass etc. they are firm but flaky white fish and not fishy at all. i do not like "steak" fish ie samon, sword, mahi mahi etc. and it easy to prepare, just lemon juice garlic oilve oil s and p parsley and bake for 12-15 minutes at 350
5oh yum I love all kinds of fish. If you're fussy maybe salmon would be a would choice? I marinate it in teriyaki sauce and broil it for about 10 min. it comes out juicy and yummmmmy

9Thanks for the tips guys!!
10they say mahi mahi is what people who hate fish have a better chance at eating. have you tried it? i tried it once at a really nice fish restaurant and did not care for it. but i do like fish.
i have been on a big flounder kick lately. red lobster has a crab stuffed flounder dish that is OUT OF THIS WORLD!
11Hmmm...I think I would eat just about anything if there was crab stuffed in it.
I *think* I've tried mahi mahi once. A friend brought something back from deep sea fishing and I marinated it and we grilled it. It was pretty good, whatever it was. I think I still have the recipe! I'll try to get some mahi mahi here. Thanks, Aud!
12oh and on a side note my doctor recommends people take fish oil tablets especially people who can't eat fish regularly or not at all. i don't recommend it for the kids obviously but it is recommended for adults. just be sure to get the non-belch kind.
13my guy loves sushi and fish, but he hates eating salmon and tuna (his favorite sushi fish) cooked. He thinks they smell too fishy and are overpowering in taste. If you're looking for something simple start with white fishes like tilapia and halibut. Something like this recipe might work nicely. Personally i love seared tuna, so yum!
14There is a recipe on the back of a Hidden Valley Ranch packet for a white fish (I usually use sole because it cooks up super quickly) that is divine and so so easy. I add garlic and a bunch of fresh herbs to the marinade/mixture and it makes it super delish!
15J.....I don't have any recipes....but I HIGHLY recommend cooking Tilapia on the
It is SOOOO good and
it doesn't have a fishy taste. Also, I enjoy salmon as well.
16hmmmm sole is delish in any shape, way of form!

Tilapia is taaaasty. I made some filets stuffed with crab meat for dinner the other day, and it was a big hit. Also, I have to give a vote to mahi mahi, grouper, and red snapper. I don't think they're too slimy/mushy, and they aren't over-powering. But, I grew up in Florida and have always eaten fish, so my opinion could be skewed.
18I usually stick to talapia, mahi mahi or swordfish. Swordfish, when cooked correctly, can taste EXACTLY like a steak. I highly recommend it. I'm with yum's boyfriend, I
and
over sushi!!!
19I love Salmon, but Tilapia is also good and easy to find and prepare.
20You know, it's funny - I don't really think of salmon as fish.
I guess because I like it and
I don't like fish...?
I'll have to give us fish eating credit when we eat salmon.
I am definitely going to try tilapia and mahimahi too! Thanks guys!!
21Team Tilapia!
22I love pretty much all fish! Good tips, guys!
23Mmmmmm...I like fish. I like tilapia and orange roughy most though!
24I love fish~! I wish my family loved fish, I wish I wish.....what?
) and lemon is good! You might really enjoy red snapper, it's more firm and kind of flaky and taste so
good, I'll give you a recipe for home made tarter sauce if you like that kind of stuff!!
25um, yeah
Salmon is good but you might think it's too mushy..but stuffed flounder is YUMMY! And Tilapia baked or grilled with 'I can't believe it's not butter' and evoo (
Hmm, from now on, I will try not to over use the word good!
26Jamers - I have your tartar sauce recipe and I LOVE it!! Seriously the best tartar sauce I've ever had. I will even eat those frozen fish filet things just to get at your tartar sauce.
27Shi - For dinner tonight I made salmon marinated in teriyaki and the kids practically inhaled it.
Thanks for the suggestion!
28I made tilapia tonight! It was actually pretty good. The recipe wasn't fabulous or anything, and I'd probably try a different one next time. I forgot about the Hidden Valley Ranch tip. Maybe I'll try that next time.
Thanks guys! I may pick up another kind of fish tomorrow.
29woot woot! i had stuffed flounder tonight at red lobster.
30
I am going to have to try that!
31Girls, where do I get these new emoticons?

33I'm not much of a seafood eater but I like orange roughy best too.
34awwwwww!!
and thank you Jen~ my sauce is gooooooood!
35I'm so glad I found this post, Jen! I've been thinking I should try fish again. I swore off of it in childhood but I've always eaten shrimp and I added crab a few years ago... so maybe it's time to try a not-too-fishy fish and see if I can handle it.
