Saw a PETA video today. OMG if people saw what they do to animals, their living conditions and how they slaughter them and how a lot of them end up drowning in scalding water after they slit their throats because they do not have enough time to bleed to death... WOW! I'm not going to be all psycho throw paint on your fur because then you would just have to go buy another one, ya know. I am becoming a vegetarian and so is my daughter. Soooo what do we eat?? I saw Bocca burgers, look pretty good. i have had tofu and tofurkey and I do like. So far that's all I have. I like milk so... does soy really taste like milk or better?? I have a 9 year old and she is totally down for not eating Wilbur (the pig from Charlotte's Webb) but, I need to find things that will keep her happy as well. Any advise?

Tiffany, if you like Boca Burgers, you are going to LOVE the grillers from Morning Star Farms, they are simply delish, and there are usually coupons by the door of the freezer where they are sold. Here in Fl I find them at all the grocery stores. They also make chicken nuggets, corn dogs, sausages, chicken and meat strips for stir fries, bacon, they are all very tasty, all made of soy.
So you'll need to try it and decide LOL
They had salmon fillet and I swear it even flaked and smelled like the sea!! they were sooo good!! Maybe yo are luckier and can get them in your neighborhood
For deli meats like bologna and ham, check out the refrigerated aisle where they sell the organic veggies. I don't drink milk but I have bought the soy milk for my Hubby - who is the vegetarian in the house - and when I asked him what he thought of it he just said "eehhh"
I used to find vegetarian fish from Momo's Kitchen but I cannot find them at my local stores anymore

1Don't worry 'bout a ting!
I am a total advocate for animal rights and it is great for people to vegetarian, but I have an insatiable craving for meat sometimes. Instead, I buy all of my meat, dairy products, and even vegetables that have been deemed "organic" and are not mass produced. That way, you can get some relief in knowing that these animals did not suffer their whole lives and then become food for us. If you have a whole foods market or Earth Fare near you, that's the best place to shop for things like this, plus they have a large selection of foods for vegetarians. Good luck!
2I'm not a vegetarian, but I do have a little advice. Make sure that your daughter takes a multivitamin and eats a lot of beans, tofu, or nuts to make up for the lack of protien from meat. Growing muscles need it.
I commend you both for taking such a big step. I'd miss my
chicken too much, but I have sworn off pork after seeing a pig farm on Dirty Jobs.
3Sticky, it all depends on the breeder, a friend in Peru has a pig farm and it is cleaner than many hospitals, all the engineers walk around wearing lab coats and everything is spotless.
If I don't eat meat
for a few days I feel really weak
4I do eat a lot of veggies but hubby's the vegetarian here

Shi, it wasn't just that it was dirty. It freaked me out seeing the pigs get their teeth and tails cut with the same dirty shears (no anisthetic), then stabbed with a needle full of antibiotics and tossed into a pen with a mesh floor. By the time they're big enough to go outside, they've gone so long on the mesh that they don't know how to walk on solid ground and are disoriented for a couple hours.
5Yeah for you! I have made a small change in my diet recently after going to Notmilk.com. I wish I could afford to buy allll organic products, but it's kind of expensive. I have decided to drink only Soy milk (Silk). it tastes pretty good to me. A little sweeter than regular milk.
6Thanks Colormesticky!!! No more Pork for me!!!!
7i was a vegetarian for over a year in my early twenties but i was young and naive and didn't eat healthy enough so i jumped back into meat. i quit eating meat cold turkey (sorry for the pun) after watching a 48 hours special about the treatment of the animals. even though i do eat meat now i still am not a big meat eater and will probably not eat any when i get my health in check. multivitamins are very beneficial. an insurance policy just in case you are not getting everything your body needs.
as for soy milk i have not tried it yet but i gave some to my boys for the first time today and they absolutely loved it. i think it is because it is sweet.
i wish you luck in your endeavor and know that your #1 goal will be keeping your little one healthy. and it is possible with vegetarian meals as long as you stay focused.
8tiffany nicole, it is wonderful that you are doing that. people may tell you that you're starving your daughter and it's complete bullsh*t. the only vitamin that you need from animal products is b12 but you can get it from cheese and milk. you can get all the protein that you need from beans, rice, whole grains, etc. you also don't need half the protein that carnivores think you need. most kids don't get their veggies anyways and i'm happy to know that your girlie is going to grow up healthy and cruelty free!
9good for you, animal cruelty from factory farms in disgusting and should never be supported.

10Thanks guys for all the comments and support. I went to Trader Joe's today (like Whole Foods) and me and the kid had a blast and I hate grocery shopping. Im still letting her eat chicken and fish for now and I'm eating fish and seafood for now. We got sushi, chicken shu mai, stuffed salmon, bacon that's not really meat a ton of noodle dishes and lots of vegetarian frozen meals w/ tofu, almonds, bana chipe trail mix, tea's, naked juice but by Trader Joes water and more. I only spent $68 and got a weeks worth of groceries and that includes the weekend so that's my new spot. If anyone has any recipe's let me know. I feel healthier already. I know we need to eat beans and greens, I have never been much of a cook so this is nu nu to me!!
