Hey guys,
I'm in need of help regarding American food.
For English, we're gonna have a culture week, my group chose the USA.
So were going to need a lot of all American foods for people to eat and enjoy.
American food is nothing new to me, its my favorite kind of food!
Living in the USA for 6 years has made me quite familiar with all of the tasty foods, but still, I need some ideas.
So far I'm good with sweet recipes (cheesecake, choc. chip cookies, donuts, apple pie, brownies, etc.)
Savory is my problem, I need something portable and not so hard to make, remember this is for hungry teens!
So far, all I got is corn dogs and mini grilled cheese sandwiches... that's basically it.
It can't be pizza, because there's a group doing Italy, so they'll have plenty of that.
So any ideas on good, portable and easy to make, savory all American food?

what about Mac n' cheese? Or corn bread and chili... I will keep thinking.
1Depends. Barbecue anything, chili, potato salad, clam chowder, corn bread, root beer, baked potatoes with sour cream, casseroles, pancakes. Anything you could order at a greasy spoon kind of diner, like meatloaf, mac and cheese, pastrami sandwiches, etc.
2What about southern fried chicken, Maine crabcakes or crab boils with Old Bay seasoning, chicken-fried steak with white gravy, cheesy grits, Chop Suey (funny enough, it was invented here I think), meatloaf, mini chicken-pot-pies and deviled eggs. I'll try to think of some more, I know there is tons.
Oh, there was a post recently on Yumsugar about scrapple (but it didn't seem a lot of posters were into that).
3Mini burgers
4Mini burgers are a great choice. Pure American, delicious and very portable.
5I've always considered Cesear salad to be very American.
6It might be fun to do some regional things since the U.S. is so huge and diverse. (Like Smacks recommended) I'd include Jambalaya in that list (very easy and makes tons)
Make little sliders (mini hamburgers) because that would be super portable. I made these once and they were good and easy - www.rachaelraymag.com/recipes/hamburger-recipes/herb-sliders/article.htm...
You could also do some fun dishes like fried pickles.
or onion
rings.
Hot wings, deviled eggs, chicken fingers
7What about BBQ anything (chicken, pork, ribs), and I am from Philly, so what about cheesesteaks?
8Yeah, I was thinking hot wings as well. Good luck! I am getting so hungry with this list. How about mini PB&J sandwiches? Not so exciting, but American to me??
9chicken nuggets is one too, hmmm.
remember it has to be finger food!!
people are going to pass by in class breaks.
10so finger food please!
lol, if that's the case you should deep fry some fun size candy bars.
11fortune cookies(an american invention)
Waldorf Salad (invented in new york)
Tiny hamburgers or sliders.
12Cobb Salad, mini sliders (hamburgers), bbq chicken wings
13Beef on weck,Coney Island Hots,Antipasta Salad,Pasta Salad,Potato Skins.
14These came to mind :
Chips and dips are always a hit.
Sub sandwiches cut into serving sizes,
lunch-meat sandwiches cut in half or quartered,
Cubes of cheese with a pretzel in the centers of them, so it can be picked up easily.
Oh- and Don't forget to make vegetarian foods too.
15AWESOME ideas ! if ever someone needs SWISS food tips - i am here
16I don't know why, but seeing this post reminded me of this gem. PLEASE don't make this!
17Nothing says America like fast food.
I don't think you need to make anything, just go get McDonald's!
