Chocolate Mud Cake
Chocolate Mud Cake made in a slow cooker.
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
6 tablespoons butter
2 ounces semisweet chocolate (or 1/3 cup chocolate chips)
2/3 plus 1/3 cup sugar
3 tablespoons plus 1/3 cup Dutch-processed cocoa
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup milk
1 egg yolk
1/3 cup brown sugar
11/2 cups hot water
Whipped cream or ice cream
1. Coat the inside of a 2 1/2- to 5-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. (Note: the cake's cooking time and final appearance will vary depending on your crock's size.)
2. Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a medium bowl and set aside. In a large bowl, melt the butter and chocolate in the microwave or over a pan of simmering water and mix well.
3. Whisk in the 2/3 cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons of cocoa, vanilla extract, salt, milk, and egg yolk. Add the flour mixture and stir until thoroughly mixed.
4. Pour the batter into the slow cooker and spread it evenly. In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, cocoa, and hot water until the sugar is dissolved.
5. Pour the mixture over the batter in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 1 to 2 hours, depending on the size of the crock pot.
6. Even when done, the cake will be very moist and floating on a layer of molten chocolate, but you'll know it's ready when nearly all of the cake is set and the edges begin to pull away from the sides of the pot. (As you check, try not to let the condensed steam from the lid drip onto the cake.)
7. When it's done, turn off the power and remove the lid. Let it cool for 25 minutes, then serve it in bowls topped with whipped cream or ice cream. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Post a CommentI came across this yummy sounding recipe while looking for birthday cake ideas. Wish I had a slow cooker because I would definitely make this.
now this is what im talking about
Mmmm....lunch...that has just made me very hungry....it looks real moist and soft like chocolate cakes should be.
morning JK
YUMMMMY! Thanks for that
I wanna rub it all over hahahahaa
Mmmmm no slow cookers over here, though lol
i dont have one either, Im trying to think of a good alternative... would my pressure cooker work on low heat?
Want to borrow mine Twink? I rarely use it?
A slowcooker in Spain would cost a fortune. electronics are too damn expensive here. In the US I could get a good one for like 40 bucks tops
When we bought ours at Target (for like $40 lol), it had a European plug!? It was the weirdest thing. We had to return it and get another one.
I know, here in Europe things like that are expensive...it costs less to fly somewhere for the weekend than it does for an iPod LOL!
Really Yayita? I wonder why they cost so much there.
Aw thanks Jinx but it wouldn't work here anyway
I've never seen slow cookers here. I wonder if a
dutch oven set on low would work for this?
what exactly is a ducth oven Twinkle. is it like a regular toter oven?
So are your outlets different there than here too?
yes jinxy, very different
OMG I thought a dutch oven was what people called a fart under a blanket
LMAO Mme Hart, its that too!
LOL Jinx...i read that and that's what I thought of!
Electrical outlets are very different over here, and there are differences between countries, too i.e. UK and France
OMFG there is something SOOOO funny about a super classy lady typing "fart under a blanket" that screams hilarious to me! LMAO Mme H!
http://kateneedshelp.blogspot.com/
hehehe, yes Hart, they call that a dutch oven too. But theres an actual Oven, that supposedly doesn't let out any heat. Hence the ducth oven fart... an attempt to keep the fart alive for as long as possible trapped under te sheets
So what exactly is a dutch oven for real then? I hear the term, but I really don't know.
A dutch oven is a cast iron pot with a tight fitting lid. Also known as a camp oven. I have a couple by Le Creuset. There are some in my Fab finds.
Yep Jinx, the outlets are different and so is the voltage.
LOL thanks for clarifying!!
Okay, thanks, I'll have to take a look.
LOL
The big pots are the dutch ovens. Mme Hart should know all about these

this is too funny
Maybe they're called French ovens there.
Oh yes, I have those!
I have to run ladies, it's 2:30 and I have some errands to run!
á bientot!
oh yeah Twinkle I know these!

i love my slow cooker i couldnt imagine life without it sometimes esp. for my spaghetti sauce just tastes better from scratch and cooking all day!
I totally want to make this. Dee-lish!
Oh, now we're talking my love language!
Yours Truly,

This sounds wonderful! I've never heard of making a cake in a crock pot, so I want to try it. And I bet it makes the whole house smell yummy. And twink, I definitely think a dutch oven would work. As long as the cast iron isn't holding a meaty flavor!
The whole dutch oven convo was hilarious!
Oh my goodness...this sounds devine. (((Backs away and pretends she never saw this thread in fear of making the cake and eating the whole thing herself! lol)))

GEAUX SAINTS!
I'm a slow cooker fanatic. I got the 6 quart Rival that came with the mini slow cooker. I'm still waiting to use the little one until I find the perfect spinach artichoke dip recipe.
Yummy, I must try. I made a box marble cake last night with creamy chocolate frosting... I had like 2 peices for breakfast. Nicky made me do it I swear.
OOOOOOOOOOOO Sticky I have one. But Ill have to type it up! Its soooooooooooooooo goooooooooooooooooood. lol I have a mini slow cooker I dont have a normal sized one, so I am always making a mess when I cook with it. I over fill....
That looks so yummy and moist. I need a crock pot, though.
Ooh yummy! The chocolate lovers must be salivating right now, lol.
oh we are lol
t0xxic, does your recipe use mayonaise? I'm trying to find one that uses cheese instead of mayo. Mayo =
BeachBarbie, crock pots are the best things ever. Once you start using it, it's incredibly handy to have around. It's so nice having dinner done when you get home. Or dessert, in this case.
No... I dont think so. I will find it when I get home tonight. Im pretty sure its cream cheese my mil makes it for me all the time and I dont recall seeing mayo wow people put mayo in it huh?
Yeah, and it's just nasty. I always read the ingredients before I buy it at the grocery store, and there are only a couple I've found that don't have mayo.
Ill have to get it tonight then, I think its with all my xmas cards lol nice place to keep it huh?
I hope somebody makes this and lets me know how it turned out.
Twinkle it will be next for me after the Tuna caserole
